Four interesting facts about the Forum

Global Policy Forum will be held for the third time in Yaroslavl on September, 7-8, 2011. The topic of the Forum is ‘The modern state in the age of social diversity’.
1. Three discussion grounds
Unlike the Forums in 2009 and 2010 this year the event will host three not four discussion grounds. These are the sections ‘Democratic institutions in multiethnic societies’, ‘The rich and the poor: where is justice?’ and ‘Global security and local conflicts’. The organizers of the event stayed the same: Institute for Public Planning, Institute of Contemporary Development, and Yaroslavl Demidov State University.
2. More than 400 participants
This year more than 400 leading politicians, economists and experts from different countries take part in the Forum. The participation of the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev and the President of Turkey Abdullah Guk is expected. The event is covered by more than 600 journalists from all over the world. This can be regarded as a record as about 500 journalists covered the previous Forums. The sessions will be broadcast in 11 languages (last year the number was nine).
3. Tens of thousands meters of fitted carpet
Traditionally the event takes place in ‘Arena-2000’ sports complex. The hall for plenary sessions and sections zone are on the ground floor, the first floor hosts the press center and recreational area. By the way, to turn the ice ring into a cozy and modern conference center tens of thousands meters of fitted carpet, about 40 cars with construction materials, 60 kilometers of cable and more than 2100 units of technical equipment were used. The ice ring will get its appearance back by September, 10.
4. Novelties
The novelty of this year’s Forum is TV-bridges that will allow the participation of experts from other cities. Their speeches will be broadcast on plasma screens.
Another novelty is electronic badges for every participant. They have a photograph and personal information. With the help of such badges it is even possible to know where exactly inside the ‘Arena-2000’ the participant is.
