Institute of Contemporary Development

The Institute of Contemporary Development was created on the basis of the Center for Development of Information Society (RIO Center) to perform research in the sphere of information and communication technologies. Over time RIO Center outgrew its initial framework and expanded its work to elaboration of socio-economic scenarios of Russia's development for 2008 - 2016. Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Contemporary Development is the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev.

Today the Institute of Contemporary Development is the largest research and communication center possessing expertise in major areas of state policy and economy. It provides a discussion platform for a trust-based dialog between government, business and scientific community. The Institute's activity is rich in events where public opinion leaders - state authorities, businessmen and representatives of scientific and academic community - exchange ideas on a broad range of political, economic and social issues.

Among the Institute's fundamental projects are 'World Financial Crisis and Its Influence on Russian Economic Development', 'Middle Class: Problems of Creation and Prospects of Growth', 'Social Policy Shaping. Social-Labor Relations', 'Pension System Reform', 'Russian Ecology Policy', 'Russian Democracy Model', 'State and Prospects of Local Government Development in Russia', 'Russia: Values of Modern Society', 'Development of Strategic Partnership with European Union' and other. A range of ideas is presented in series of books published within the Institute's program 'Library of the Institute of Contemporary Development'.

The Institute supports education projects including the Baltic Engineering Research Contest, multipurpose project 'Youth Information Equality', the All-Russian Contest 'Overall Computer Training'.

In 2009 the Institute of Contemporary Development became one of the key organizers of the Russian-Spanish Forum 'Civil Societies Dialog' and organized the VI Twer Socio-Economic Forum 'Information Society' which aims to discuss the national action plan project on the implementation of the Strategy of Information Society Development in the Russian Federation.

 

 

Chairman of the Management Board of the Institute of Contemporary Development is a member of the Public Chamber of Russia, Deputy Chairman of the Expert Council on Priority National Projects and Demographic Policy, First Vice President of Renaissance Group, Vice President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Igor Yurgens .
